We have had our 17 day trip to Banff reduced to 14 days because of the cancelled Saturday flights. Strangely our direct flight to Calgary on Wed 7th Jan from Manchester now seems to take 12.5 hours instead of 8.5 hours. Canadian Affair offered 3 different reasons for this on 3 different occasions:
1) They are not sure of the weight of the aircraft so that is the maximum time it could take. However it would seem they are sure of the aircraft weight on the return journey which takes just 9 hours. Surely the equation: (number of passengers x maximum baggage allowance)+( Average weight of passenger x number of passengers) = a fair idea of weight! So if everybody travels light I may get an afternoon in at Norquay!
2) On the second call they said there may be a stop/transfer, but are not sure where this is, but the flight does appear to take an unusually long time.
3) Third call, the flight is direct but maybe it will take a different route. I am well aware that in the current economic climate airlines love to use extra fuel!
After contacting Monarch directly I now know that the flight refuels in Gander Canada (might be spelt incorrectly).
Why could somebody at Canadian Affair not have made that 5 minute call?
I now wait 28 days before somebody gets back to me in writing.
