I love the bike, I had been waiting to get one for along time since I drove Yamaha majesty in morocco, finally got one. I was happy the first year.
second year mine started to back fire ,and sometimes you can hear it in the airbox, took it back to the dealer more than three times, and the problem still there, bought it new in 06,now we are in 08 ,I m not as happy as I should be with the Burgman anymore.
Anyone has any suggestion for me, the dealer does not seem to be able to fix it, and I still have an extended warranty.

The cause of the backfire may be the same as I experienced in early days of ownership. Dealer was unable to solve. I found the cause to be spark plug caps not fully pushed down and seated on the plugs (the cap appears to be OK but the rubber lip that helps to seal it to the plug is trying to lift it back off).
The solution - lift off each plug cap and apply a short blast of WD40 into the end of the cap and refit immediately. As you push the cap down to seat it on the plug you should hear a slight rasping/grating sound as it makes full contact with the plug top.
This was the answer for me - never had a problem since.
