We flew from Sydney to Taipei and then from Taipei to LA. It seems as though this is the route which you are guaranteed to get the AVOD systems. I was extremely surprised at how good this airline is. The AVOD was excellent and without it would have made the trip drag on. The planes were in excellent condition and the flight attendants were always willing to help. The food was also pretty good with basic food such as rice with pork or chicken. I think a lot of the complaints are due to the fact that a lot of the other routes have the older plains without the AVOD but I believe that they will soon all have it installed which is good.
The only down side was the fact that our destination was LA and we had to obviously fly to Taipei first which made our journey longer. So if I was ever to be traveling to Asia I would not hesitate to fly China Airlines again.
