Good Points

Krakow has the largest and most beautiful medieval square in all of Europe. The setting for this market is wonderful. We enjoyed the traditional foods...hunter's stew, Polish sausage on the grill, mushrooms, pork kabobs and mulled wine cooking outdoors. There is a good variety of stalls selling ornaments, cards, clothing, sculpture, creches. The atmosphere is magical with the trumpeter of Krakow playing the "Hejnal" from the church every hour on the hour. There also is a good variety of Polish Christmas entertainment in the square.

Bad Points

There might not be as great a range of goods in the market as in the German markets.

General Comments

There are 100,000 young Poles in Krakow who speak English because it is home to the Jagiellonian University. There is also a Polish tradition of hospitality unequalled in other parts of Europe. Restaurants and hotels are most welcoming and gracious to tourists. We were in Krakow for the Christmas market in 2007 and spoke to many English and Irish tourists. Many remarked how they were surprised at how lovely and polite especially the young people are. There are also many lovely new hotels, restaurants, clubs in the city and prices are lower than in Western Europe. You won't be disappointed in choosing Krakow for Christmas.
