General Comments
I went with my family to visit PC World in Peterborough a few weeks ago.
I asked the nearest sales assistant about a laptop. She failed to get the question for a few minutes and in the end didn't know. She asked another employee. He didn't seem to know. They disappeared for a while. They came back with a printout from the PC World website describing the laptop. The print out itself did not answer the question and was incorrect on a couple of other points so I gave up.
Meanwhile my step-son had found a PC to buy. It wasn't priced so he asked. The assistant had to disappear again and find out. We picked up one of the boxes containing the PC and went to the checkout. Only one checkout was open and the line was slow. I had to ask someone to open the other till which they did but not until the line was half way down the store.
The boy on the checkout scanned various bar codes on the box but it didn't register. Again he didn't appear to know what to do next and after several minutes starring, scanning, starring he told us we had to go and collect a monitor and pay for it all somewhere else but couldn't tell us where. We went to the support desk but they didn't seem to know what to do. We asked a staff member we had dealt with previously and he didn't seem to know either. So we stood milling about while various people asked various other people how we were supposed to pay for this PC. Finally a different assistant came over, took us through an unmarked opening in the back wall and sat us down at a desk to offer us a warranty. Hence why it wouldn't scan on the desk - not obvious considering the PC was just in a box on a shelf like any other product you'd carry to a checkout.
I wish I could convey precisely how confused most of the staff I dealt with appeared to be throughout my visit to PC world, whether it be a technical question or the simple one of how to buy a PC!
