General Comments

We moved into a new house and immediately received bills for gas and electricity from British Gas. We have always been with EDF Energy, have received really good service from them and nectar points. Anyway, we rung British Gas and told them that we would be switching to EDF Energy. They said this was fine. My partner explained to them that the readings on both bills were incorrect, and gave them the correct readings from our move-in date. They told us to ignore all previous bills and that they would send out correct bills. We then received new bills which were still incorrect.

When they finally got around to sending us a final bill for the gas, I paid it, relieved to be rid of them. Would you believe it, a week after paying the "final" bill, we received another final bill for 37p. I rung them and told them quite clearly that I had no intention of paying another final bill when one had already been paid and that I would not be expecting to receive monthly final bills from them for strange amounts "picked out of the air". The person on the other end of the phone said he would look into it, when he came back after 5 minutes, he told me he had no idea what the 37p was being charged for, that he had written it off and closed the account. He was quite apologetic, although I am still expecting to receive a final, final bill from them. I would steer clear. I have no idea how their prices rate, but the level of disorganisation I experienced put me off for good.
