Good Points

They are loyal, trainable, affectionate, playful, will adopt all your friends and family as their 'flock' to protect, highly intelligent, aware of and responsive to your mood and very handsome dogs.


Bad Points

untrained or badly bred they can be nervous and aggressive, can also suffer inherited health issues I always avoid the show lines as these seem more likely to carry these faults due to line breeding (mating closely related dogs) also the show dogs are more likely to have an exaggerated slope to the back, which makes them more likely to suffer hip problems.


General Comments

I have owned German shepherds for 25 years and currently own 4 of them. All 4 are easy to handle together on leash in one hand. These dogs do need a strong willed owner willing to be pack leader, their desire to please in second to none in the dog world. You will get used to being constantly watched by these dogs.
Do not get one of these dogs if you are not prepared to train it, or are going to keep it as a yard dog. These dogs will become a member of your family. Mine also remember every friend of mine they ever meet, even after many years absence. They will be aloof to strangers until they get to know them, after which, every family friend will get an enthusiastic welcome greeting!
Good socialisation as a puppy is essential to get the best from this breed.
