General Comments

I have the HW97K in 5.5mm(.22) for more then 1 year now. The first couple of shots did have some dieseling, but after cleaning the barrel twice this problem stopped. After the break in period (approx. 500 shots), the rifle shot very accurate. I attached a Hawke Varmint II 6-24X44AO Mil-Dot scope to my 97K with a 1-piece mount. Perfect combo!

The best pellets for the HW97K are:
-H&N field target trophy
-H&N trophy hunter
-RWS super hollow point
All three of these pellets group (5 shots) within 9mm and 18mm at 30 meters. The 2 H&N's give the best results.

I occasionally shoot at 50, 75 and 100 meters. By using the Mil-Dot functions on the scope I shoot average 5-shot groups of 25mm to 35mm at 50 meters. At 70-100 meters I can easily hit a soda can. The pellets go through both sides. The Mil-Dot scope really comes in handy when shooting at 70 to a 100 meters. When shooting from 50 meters and farther you should take the wind factor into account. Wind (even when slight) wil definately have an affect on the pellets trajectory.

I have taken several rabbits with this rifle. Most of them were head shots killing the rabbits instantly. One rabbit that I shot was at 9 meters. I placed the shot on the heart-lung region. The RWS super hollow point went straight through the rabbit destroying the lungs and heart. Dead in an instant as well. My longest distance kill so far was a magpie at 40 meters. I do not exceed the 50 meter barrier while hunting. Eventhough I can hit a soda can at 70 to a 100 meters, if I don't hit the can in the centre it won't suffer. When hunting you should always go for a fast humane kill. If you doubt that the shot will be succesfull...then don't take it.

Finally...the Weihrauch HW97K is a superb airrifle capable of shooting far better then it's owner. It's beatiful and well balanced. I can recommend this rifle to anyone who is serious about hunting and target shooting.

All the shot groups discribed in this review were done in bench rest.
