Good Points

Internet on your laptop - anywhere

Bad Points

When it works... which isn't very often in my experience.

General Comments

Due to the nature of my job I often find myself staying in hotels and the like around the country so I figured that getting online with an O2 mobile broadband package would suit me down to the ground - flexibility to use it at home like a normal broadband connection, but with the added bonus of being able to stay connected when on the road.

I was wrong...

Firstly - the signal. Do you live in a field or park? Brilliant - you'll have no problem connecting. Unfortunately, I live in a house like most of the population of the UK, and feel I dont get a bean, because you see, unless you're actually outside in the open air the dongle that O2 so kindly supplied me with seems to not pick up a signal. I have remedied this to some extent by buying a USB extension cable and hanging the dongle out of an upstairs window - but the friendly salesperson never mentioned this while I was in the O2 showroom.

Further to this who connection problem, if and when you do finally get online, O2 mobile broadband has the uncanny quirk of constantly disconnecting you without your knowledge. An example:

You hang your donlgle out of the window. You contect. Google loads up (after about 5 minutes). You type in your chosen search subject. You press 'Search.' and in my experience..

Nothing happens.

Nothing happens.

Still, nothing Happens.

I was then confronted by the "cannot find server" screen (or the equivalent, depending on your browser of choice. In order to then get back online, I must disconnect and then reconnect. Repeat to fade.

To call this process annoying is an understatement of epic proportions, and the main reason why I just simply cannot reccommend O2 mobile broadband. Even when I was at school in 1997 using Netscape Navigator on a 486 the internat wasn't this slow or buggy.

I do not recomemnd O2 mobile broadband.
