Good Points

Pulls good, looks amazing, sounds good, very stable, quality built, corners well, cheap to run (full tank £9), learner legal, introduces beginners to a full framed motorbike.
When you pull up against other 125s you will feel you are on a proper motorbike, the Honda cgs and ybrs will look thin wheeled and weak. (Its a 125 with a face/style and character)
You will be very happy with your decision if you bought one.


Bad Points

If it gets dropped its game over for the handle bars for most bikes but it will also crunch the chrome side pipes etc
They only made them for 4 years from 2000- 2004 so there are no replacement engines, but parts are available. Only a side stand supports the bike.
65mph = Heavy framed so dont expect the power to accelerate with a rockets pull. (The V twin does pull and sound better though)
People will want your bike so get a good lock.


General Comments

This is one of the best 125 learner legal cruiser bikes that money can buy! (Only the L plates will give your bike away that it ' s a 125cc if you haven ' t done your full test
The quality is fantastic, these were very pricey when released.
The handling in the wet/dry is great, the seat is very comfortable and the bike is easy to manage. The chrome will need attention once in a while as there is a lot of it. It really looks the part and people will never believe it ' s a 125.
Others similar to the Yamaha Xvs Dragstar are the Suzuki VL Intruder, The Honda VT Shadow, Yamaha XV Virago, Kawasaki Eliminator.
It sounds great too with a very low tick over.
I was going to buy Yamaha Virago xv which is the same bike but with a more upright riding frame and is a bit more mellow looking (however the Virago is known to not like hills).
The XVS Dragstar is wider and stockier like a modern version of a 45 Harley Knuclehead. It has a wide tank big front light etc and more chrome leaning to more of a stocker than chopper look, the Virago XV would be probably a tad more practical in filtering being slimmer in design.
The Yamaha Dragstar pulls up a hill fine, the acceleration is slower being heavier than say a Honda cg.or 125 moped
Its a quality bike that will grow on the rider with time, to become a much loved vehicle. A good one can be bought for around £1000.
It ' s really a good looking/sound bike.
