General Comments

Been with them 7 years without a problem until recently. I have just moved house and being self employed took some time off to work on the new house. I then received a letter pointing out that no payments had been made to my current account for just over a month and asking if I could contact them to review the situation. It appeared that they were under the impression that First Direct were not my main bank any more. They seemed happy enough with my explanation but still felt the need to reduce my credit card limit by 60%. When I appealed against this they pointed out that if I switched back to First Direct as my main bankers they would reconsider. I made payments equivalent to approximately 3 months wages to illustrate my point and make up for the shortfall in payments then contacted them again. The response I got was nothing short of pathetic, apportioning blame to their automated strategy and referring me to their guidelines as responsible lenders. I really had expected better from a company which in previous dealings had seemed human compared to my experiences with other banks. The credit card limit means nothing in terms of my finances and I will be paying the card off and switching my current account to another bank. What is most annoying is their claim to be responsible lenders. They increased my credit card limit by £20,000 at a time when I was unemployed some 4 years ago. Now when I'm actually in a position financially to take time off work they decide to take it off me.
