My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Pride of America. We were first time cruisers and had read all the reviews before we booked, so had a fair idea of what to expect in terms of cleanliness and the quality of the food and the freestyle dining experience. Also the idea of not having to dress for dinner. We had the most magnificent time. The ship was so amazing. Extremely well maintained, clean and polished. At one stage during breakfast that we had in the cadillac diner, officers came around and conducted the white glove test on the seats, tables and walls and we found this to be the case in the public, rooms all over the ship.
The food was great we didn't have any problems with the quality or the variety and we ate in all the freestyle dining areas and didn't feel the need to venture anywhere else and pay the extra fees.
We had a lovely balcony cabin and the space was ample for the two of us. Our friends had the same cabin size but there was three in it so it was slightly cramped for them. The cabin was cleaned every day. chocolates were placed on the pillows and a towel animal was also placed on the bed for decoration, a lovely touch. Our cabin steward was marvellous and very friendly as was all the staff we came in contact with during the cruise.
The pool areas were great. Got a deck chair early in the morning left our towels and lotion on it and it was ours for the entire day. There was lots to do on board such as draughts, chess, shuffleboard, a golf range also bingo, trivial persuit and many more games to entertain you.
The shows in the evening were really good. The staff put on a couple of skits which were brilliant. We had a magician and some very professional singers also. In the mardi gras lounge there was something going on everynight also, 50's nights, competitions, line dancing and much more. There was something for everyone.
Of course there was also some quiet places to go to also. We saw people playing cards in the card room and there was also the library to go to. The shops were very reasonable also and very nicely stocked. We found the staff to be available at all times and always with a smile. e.g. It was very warm weather and lying out by the pool they would come round every 15 minutes or so to spray water on us to keep us cool. We had a fantastic cruise and will most definitely sail with NCL line again. As a matter of fact I am planning on doing the Alaskan Inside Passage. For us there was no downside. Embarkation was smooth as was the disembarkation.
Making sure that I kept all my onboard receipts for the drinks etc. The account when I received it was exactly the same amount so nothing was added extra that I didn't know about. We had a fabulous cruise with the Pride of America and would have no hesitation to recommend it to other travellers. We cruised from the 13th September until the 20th September 2008
