Good Points

Higher interest, fast service, helpful phone service with long hours, free ATM (limited) service.


Bad Points

No local deposit facilities.


General Comments

I have been with ING Direct since 2003 when they were offering 2.3% for savings and we were getting .75% from B of A. They kept their word. Interest rates went up as the economy did and then started dropping as the economy went into the trash. Remember, when Bush took office, gas was $1.46 per gallon. Their interest on savings, checking and CDs has been consistently higher than other banks unless you had some huge amount on deposit. They have no minimum amount for their rates. Their main claim to fame is the NO FEE policy on their checking account. Not for bounced checks people write you, they won't let you write a check for more than you have and they give you a credit card at the end of your checking account for additional "spending power" should a deposit be delayed in the mail or from your bank.
I can do all the usual online banking as fast and usually faster than I could with any other bank I have used and the 1.75% interest on my checking balance is a pleasure. They mail checks for me if electronic payment is not available and even pay for the postage. If you use their contracted ATMs the fee(s) are refunded promptly even though they appear on your ATM receipt. The website supplies a map of ATMs.
I feel obligated to reply to some of the negatives listed on this site. All of the problems reported stem from failure to read and follow the instructions ING gives both in writing and by telephone. What few minor problems I have had in 5 years of banking with ING have all been resolved smoothly and quickly.
I have signed up several people to ING and every one of them has had the same pleasant experience I have had. They are now sending their friends and family members to ING.
