I used Egg to balance transfer from a couple of other cards.
I was told the limit I could transfer. I made my first payment by card and set up a direct debit for consequent payments. Then looked forward to a year of hassle free 0% payments. Boy was that a mistake on my part!
After paying the first payment I thought I had a bit of money to spend which I needed for petrol - my card was declined. I rang Egg who told me I was maxed out due to the high interest I was paying on my card - eh??
It turns out Egg allow you to balance transfer for the full amount your card will allow and then slap their transfer fee on top of this. This immediately takes you over your credit limit thus forfeiting all interest free offers. They charge a ridiculous amount of interest which I have found impossible to clear. As I have been over the limit of my card several times I now have a bad credit rating. I have had to remortgage my house to clear the card as no other company will give me enough to balance transfer.
Others may say this naivety on my part - and perhaps it is but since this debacle with the Egg card another company has allowed me a small amount to transfer to them. When I transferred to them they assured me they take into account their transfer rate and give the limit of the card accordingly thus meaning the transfer fee will not send you over the cards limit.
Surely there are far better cards out there - Barclycard being my recommendation!
One more interest payment to make and my Egg card is going through the shredder! hoorah!
