Queen And Paul Rogers, The Cosmos Rocks is a big, ballsy, heavy dose of rock and roll which sounds as if it was released in 1975. This is how music used to be made before the industry caved into the vacuous hip hop/r'n'b stylings of today. Paul Rodgers at 58 still commands one of the finest rock voices of his generation but the album really belongs to Brian May whose axe wielding has never sounded so ferocious. The lyrical content has copped a lot of criticism in early reviews of the album and while there's nothing here bordering on the profound, one shouldn't forget this is a big, dumb, loud rock and roll album which doesn't pretend to be anything but. The Cosmic Rocks is all killer and no filler - it's a lot heavier and more bluesey than die-hard Queen fans might be used to but with Rodgers on board Brian May and Roger Taylor have elevated the band to a new level. A must-have.
