Starts every time on the first pull. According to my UPS with digital display that is a high end unit and shows volts in and volts out, frequency, and k.w. being drawn the EU2000I is doing what it is supposed to do. Very quiet on loads under 500 watts and very fuel efficient.
Bad Points
When I first ran it, the EU2000i had a pretty rough idle for about a week and then all smoothed out so I am assuming all it need to do was break in, otherwise I can't find any bad points.
General Comments
I kind of have a obsession for playing with my new generator. I have pretty much been running my Honda EU2000I hard non stop for six weeks now minus a few hard rain days we had, I had to put it away (bummer). I have a 15 thousand dollar Macintosh quad core (4 processors each processors (running at 3.2 gigahertz) with L4 cache= a total of 8 megabytes of cache total) dual 1050 gigahetz front side bus and ten gigs of ram, four 750 gig hard drives, a A.T.I. X 1900 512 megabytes high definition video card and a 23 inch high definition Apple cinema display. That is basically what I have been powering with my Honda. The computer only draws about 600 watts when I don't have much running but it can't take allot more depending on how much I open up.
I run the Honda hard because I am putting it to the test. I bought a few Magna inverters off of E-Bay and all three broke in the first week and I learned the hard way that you get what you pay for besides there is no one willing to work on them because no small engine mechanic knows where to get the parts for the cheap pieces of crap. I also went through a Duro Power in two weeks after those, STAY AWAY FROM "DURO POWER LIKE THE PLAGUE! Duro Power does not back there warranty at all, they told me they would send out the parts to me but it was up to me to fix it! What a joke and I have read in other forums that other people have had the same warranty problems with "Duro Power".
I would say my honda has well over 250 hours on it now. I change the oil about every 35 to 45 hours. I only use full synthetic 10w30 Mobile 1 oil in it. As a matter of fact the Honda is providing power to this computer right now as I type this forum. I clean out the air filter once a week and do all the maintenance as required to it. It comes with the two year residential warranty so I am not afraid to play with it like it's a toy. I live in the Chicago suburbs so if it does break and the Honda dealer gives me a hard time about honoring the warranty, I am not worried about it because there are about 50 more dealers within a 30 minute drive from me. I am not to worried about my Honda dealer not honoring the warranty because I already took it back for the rough idle and they where all smiles and the owner of the shop said come on in the the back with your generator and let's take a look at it. They put all the other customers aside that where not there at the time being and and worked on my carburetor and gave it some adjustments and told me not to be afraid to come back if I have any other problems. They even ran load tests on it for me and I did not ask them to do that.
As for the few people I have read forums on about having there piston rod stretching and snapping, they must not have been giving there generators regular oil changes and I work with my uncle in his full automotive shop helping him pull engines and transmissions and stuff like that. I asked my uncle if it's possible to have a piston rod that is a non hardened metal and he laughed and said it would be impossible to put a non hardened piston rod in an engine and expect it to work. The piston rod is what takes the most abuse. I also asked the mechanic at Honda and I basically got the same answer and his reply was it is a hardened rod. I change the oil on a regular basis and I am sure most of you know that a air cooled engine runs much hotter than a liquid cooled engine, that is why I use full synthetic Mobile 1 oil, it protects up to 400 degrees and is very hard to get to break down and create sludge in the motor. Mobile 1 also will help the EU2000I run much cooler.
What people are saying about the overhead cam making the engine run much hotter than just over head valves is a MYTH!!
PIece to all.
