The 57 is a nice, compact underlever of decent power (approx 11 ft/lbs); with an excellent trigger. The powerplant is straight from the HW-99, making it a fine "yard "gun and good enough for pest control to about 40 yards.
Bad Points
I would have preferred a removable front sight as I'm a scope user, but the factory front sight doesn't interfere with imaging when using a scope, so this is a pretty picayune point. The one item I had major issues with is the loading port. On my gun (and a few others I've tuned), the port didn't line up with the bore properly and the entrance to the bore was heavily chamfered, leaving an unacceptably large gap for the pellet to jump across before engaging the rifling. Combine this with the port misalignment and the gun will have accuracy issues. By careful machining of the ports' base and the addition of two tiny adjustment screws on each side of the ports' "wings", I was able to achieve bore alignment. Accuracy improved at least 50% with that modification. I should have just exhanged the gun immediately, but being an air-smith, I had to go in and solve the problem in my own fashion.
General Comments
Overall, I like the gun for it's size and general quality. The Rekord triggers are always tops and most of the HW-57's don't suffer from the issues I ran into. This gun is highly tunable for those wishing to take it up another notch or two towards perfection. If Weihrauch could produce the stock with a shorter length of pull, I think many women shooters could handle the gun quite well, and the pop up loading port makes for very safe loading. RB
