Absolute brilliant character progression and literately could not put the book down for the last third.
Bad Points
Felt Ben Elton perhaps thought he was being cleverer than he actually was at times. The plot was obviously inspired by '1984.' The vast majority of the book till the last third was slow and repetitive.
General Comments
Like another reviewer I noticed, I was quite ready to do away will the book about half way. Elton had gone over the same ground lots of times e.g. 'remember that thing that you sometimes do in your daily life? well it's ten times more extreme in the future.'
Then things really got going, I was literately shocked, could have had whiplash from the book at one point. And I really cared for the characters through the book. I got happy, upset, very angry at times.
My only personal problem with the ending (don't worry I won't give it away) was that right in the last few pages you're presented with an idea of the future (I'll leave it at that). You're even given visual evidence of the idea. But for some reason I just didn't believe that the idea would come true. Elton just simply failed to convince me that it would become dominant. Which is a bit of a shame!
Never mind. Interesting book with some brilliant parts and not so great parts.
