I have been using ebay for years but have gradually learnt that shopping on ebay can be very hit and miss. Ebay is great for buying those obscure liitle items, such as a part for your car or lawnmower, a toy from your childhood or even a box of rubber bands. However, ebay does have its bad points. Lots of them.
'As new' products are advertised all over ebay, especially in the electronics section, most of these claim to be ex-display. Some of them are returned products ie. an item which was sent back, usually faulty, repaired and re-sold in bulk. This means some of these items are scratched, damaged, or stop working shortly after purchase. Worse still I have purchased several items, from ebay sellers, which claim to be brand new but are infact 'As New' or factory returns (as is more appropriate).
Counterfiets can also be a problem. I once paid £45 for a jumper, which would have cost £60 on the highstreet. I felt sure this would be genuine as the seller stated this several times in the ad and the price seemed to reflect that. I had serious doubts the moment the package arrived, it just didnt look right. Surfice to say the entire collar came off after the first wash. The final straw for me was when I clicked 'Buy It Now' on a bulk pack of 24 Gillette Mach 3 razor blades, they were very blunt! Now I only use ebay for those obscure items people have in their lofts and cellars, they dig them out to earn a bit of cash and it turns out to be just what i need. This, I believe, is what ebay was intended for in the first place and it is the one thing I still like about it.
