The Neutrogena packaging states that you should apply this gel every morning and evening but I found you have to apply it much more frequently for it to have any effect. It does soothe spots a bit and, if applied enough, causes them to dry out and eventually peel (both of these effects are due to the salicylic acid). The good side to this is that it can reduce or prevent pus, but it doesn't really act very quickly. Also, although it stops my spots from hurting, it doesn't have much effect on the redness.
