General Comments

Ok, this is just one person's point of view about Freedom Outdoors - I may have caught the company on a bad day but I feel I had a really bad experience with them. I wanted a tent and carefully looked at reviews for not only the tent, but also the sellers of the tent as there was quite a bit of variation on the price. The cheapest stockist of the tent had had a bad review (accepted payment even though the item wasn't in stock), so I went with Freedom Outdoors, who didn't have such a bad review.

The website looked pretty good, so I was reassured. They debited the payment smoothly enough. But after a few days I started to wonder where the item was - so I sent them an email. I received no reply. I waited a few more days, and called them up. I was then told that the item was out of stock, and that I could either cancel my order or wait for them to order it in. What cheek! I received no reply to my original email, no apology for not getting in touch with me, no apology for not mentioning that it was out of stock on the website.

I said 'fine, please send it to me when you have it' and was told that it would arrive four working days later. A full week later I called up and asked where it was, and was told that the item was in germany and would be sent over to the uk soon. Again, I received no apology or attempt to contact me. Would the item be sent directly to me from Germany? Apparently not.

So, another week passes and I try again. Ah, it's still in germany. The company's saving grace was that head office cancelled my payment promptly - though I'll definitely check my bank statements to check they've delivered on this!

All in all I had to call them about 8 times - mostly to ask why the item had missed its delivery date yet again.

As I said, the website does seem good and this whole sorry incident may be quite rare. But the seemingly EXCEPTIONALLY poor communication they gave me (not saying the item wasn't in stock on the website; no reply to email received; missing their assurances of delivery and not contacting me in advance/apologising) in my opinion suggest that the company does need to sort a few things out at least.
