Claim eventually settled.


Bad Points

Call Centre unhelpful. Difficulty in paying up.


General Comments

We had a fire back in June and our Central Heating boiler was destroyed. Originally Norwich Union would not pay as they said the fire was caused by an electrical fault. We took photographs and these were sent to their centre. After 3 weeks an Assessor was sent out. He recommended that NU pay up. We are receiving a cheque shortly but not for the full amount. Asprea did not recommend a flush through of the system. We consulted 3 other plumbers and they all recommend this for new boilers. However, NU refused to cover this part of the work as Asprea had said it was not necessary! We decided to use our own plumber who is local. During the time we were trying to get action from the Call Centre we had to deal with different people, none of whom could make a decision even to send an Assessor. Eventually I managed to track down a helpful customer service person (through one of the complaint websites!) who took on our case and got some action. This has taken 3 months to resolve with no hot water during this time.

    So it's not just me who has problems with NU and Asprea. They are complete waste's of space, I've had an insurance claim for 1 year. They said the weather showed no signs of being a storm and my roof was not covered. Had they looked 1 day earlier they'd have seen that there were severe gales and torrential rain the week before I claimed!
