General Comments

A lot of the previous reviews of the Queen Mary seem fairly biased - or at least exceedingly negative.
Cunard is the only truly luxury cruise line left - they have effectively cornered the market. You have more cabin space, superior food, more entertainment, and more venues to visit during the day than on any other line; partly, this is because most of the QM2's journeys are transatlantic, and therefore necessitate a myriad of diversions, but it is also due to the fact that Cunard does indeed try to provide the "five star" service to anyone and everyone on board.
I emphasize the word 'tries', because that was the only noticeable difference. As a young university student, travelling to the UK with my fiancee, I could only afford the most bare-bones accommodation. That said, the cabin was quite spacious and very well appointed - if the cabin I had was the 'worst' class on the ship, then I'm shocked - I've travelled in higher class on Princess ships and had less room and amenities.
However, there were a few issues - separate dining rooms for higher paying passengers as well as their own private deck. Now I'm perfectly willing to admit that more money spent should equate to more perks, but is not a cabin the size of most modern apartments sufficient? Do we really need such a blatantly obvious class discrimination system in the 21st century?
My complaint is limited to that singular experience, however, and despite paying the lowest rate possible to get a ticket, I never felt that I was onboard anything other than the most premiere ship afloat. I received constant attentive service of an unsurpassable kind, witnessed fantastic shows and presentations, and enjoyed some of the finest food of my life.
The only critics I have ever seen are the spoiled elite who believe that no one without their sensibilities (and wallet size) should ever deign to travel onboard a Cunard liner.
