General Comments

I own a Hurricane for over twenty years now. It was a gift from a friend of my father's, along with a soviet-era Baikal air pistol. I suppose the Baikal still exists somewhere, maybe in my parent's attic, but I couldn't care less - my brother and I put maybe 10 pellets through it before setting it aside and focusing on the Webley.

I've had many CO2 guns since, but I always go back to the Hurricane. It wasn't new when I got it - the logo on both sides of the frame had faded out earlier, but you wouldn't know it had seen any use then, as now - no play between parts anywhere, even the click-adjustable sight still looks new now, despite being plastic!

I have put several thousand rounds through it in all these years, mostly plinking at targets placed 50 yards away - way above it's intended range. At this distance, you need to increase the rear sight's elevation until it is almost unscrewed. At just 100m/sec for the .22, pellet drop is considerable and wind direction is critical, but it's great fun!

I only tried using the weaver-style base once, fixing a 4X fixed scope. Frankly, it's not worth it, although a red dot could be more interesting. I suppose the Tempest, with the simpler rear sight and its more compact shape would be pretty good too, although I like the balance of the hurricane, which is compact and lightweight enough as it is. I understand they are not made any more. Pity, because a lot of people are missing out. I am not worried, because mine looks like it will last forever, but a few years ago I managed to break one of the grips when I dropped it (no other damage anywhere, thankfully), and replacing it was a nightmare. I finally managed to find a shop in Manchester, UK that had replacement grips, and bought a spare set on top of the one I needed!

If you have one, hang on to it!
