Good Points

- Terminal 5 is new and has more variety of cuisines other than just sandwiches and coffees, ie. Fine Dining, Asian cuisines. It separates some busy city transfers, which is nice because the old part of airport can't handle that busy traffics...
- The convenience store sells postage stamps. A mailing box is located right across from Currency Exchange, It is convenient for travelors who want to catch up mailing at transfer, ie. postcards

Bad Points

- The water sewage system was down for 4 hours during our transfer at Heathrow.
- Departure gate is always announced in less than 1 to 1.5 hour prior to boarding time, when transferring passengers had to wait for another 2 hours in the airport wandering around.
- On Aug 31, passengers taking mid-day to early evening flights were waiting at least 2 and a half hours (with mine for passengers waiting in cabin) to take off at Heathrow. The reason was due to the rainy torrents. There were 135 flights held up when I lastly heard the announcement before taking apart... (lucky that my flight wasn't cancelled).

General Comments

- In terms of communication, I would imagine passengers have a right to be informed about the situation at Heathrow (even prior to the connecting flight from the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in Rome). When the BA connecting flight got delayed, passengers had to wait in line for 30 minutes with no announcement until the gate opened. (Not sure if this is BA's problem or Heathrow's problem?).
- Three years ago, we were transferring at Heathrow from Germany. Our baggage was lost! We luckily got it back about one month after as it was sent back to our apartment building.
- Lastly, why do transferring passengers need to go through line-ups of passport/boarding pass control and custom X-rays? I understand about the X-ray part - the funny part is that the screen would say 'you may be asked to take off your shoes' but I was seeing that everyone MUST take off shoes to pass through the gate (for two times I transferred there). Why don't they just change the wordings, honestly?
Honestly, if we are going to travel in Europe again, we would totally avoid Heathrow transfer because for four times we went that it wasn't particulately pleasant... where really, travelors have many choices apart from London Heathrow Terminal 5 to do transfer flights! (it isn't world-class standard comparing to other newly-built airports in Asia).
I still need to get over the shock after the recent Heathrow experience...
