General Comments

I went to a dealership to have a look at the 2009 Yamaha TMAX 500. I first saw the bike on the Yamaha Website and was intrigued by the claim of sport bike performance in a scooter package. After reviewing the specs, I decided it was worth seeing in person. However, I have a problem with fitting on scooter style bikes. I'm tall and I have long legs, so I can't sit comfortably on many of the models. My knees are either pressed against the instrument panel, or I can't turn the handle bars all the way in either direction, because my legs stick up too high while resting on the sideboards. One option was to have my legs shortened, but I decided that I would just try to find a ride with a larger seating area. Surprisingly, I was able to fit very comfortably on the Honda CN250 Helix. I also fit well on the FSC600 Honda Silver Wing; in fact, I ended up trading in my Honda CB750 for a Silver Wing the same day I went to look at the TMAX. No buyers regrets here! I have to rate the TMAX a "0" because I couldn't fit on it.

Interesting comments here. So important to try out any model and not just be impressed by looks, specification or performance. It's not until you've been in the saddle for an hour or so, that you begin to find out the ergonomic problems, if any. I'm off to look at the T-Max today - and going there on my Pantheon 125 which is totally comfortable for my 6'2" frame. Bigger doesn't always mean better as far as scoots are concerned. I've sat comfortably on the 650 Burgman so I have high hopes for the T-Max.

I have a T Max500 and also a CN250, I bought the T Max because I have never found a scooter with so much legroom, I am 6'2" and have back problems but I can spend 3 hrs at a time without discomfort. More than 3 hours and you will probably run out of fuel anyway! The CN250 gets uncomfortable after 30 mins so I suppose it all depends on your individual shape.

Finally got to sit on one at the Scottish Motor Show - and found that the bars, on either lock, hit my knees on the way through. Did you not find that, teggleton? maybe I'm just odd!

You are right Dadog my knees touch the bars too but I can't think of an instance when I used full lock feet up!
I find the most comfortable stance is with my heels on the flat footboard and toes on the upward sloping bit.
The Tmax is a serious bit of kit, so stable and so smooth, you can see a marked Police car in the mirrors a good half mile away on a straight road, not many bikes or scooters can make that claim!

Hi Teggleton. You're right, you wouldn.t use full lock with feet up. Probably fall over if you did! I tend to take that same stance on the Pantheon FES and it works well. I agree the T-Max is a serious bit of kit and I reckon I shall get one shortly. Thanks for your feedback.
