General Comments

I have used ebay for some time now and have largely been a seller and occasional buyer of items.

The main advantage for a seller using ebay is that there is a huge market which ebay gives you access to - potentially across the whole globe, but in reality it is better to stick to a smaller market - you own country.

ebay is very very competitive - most of the items I sold where bought at wholesale, and a seller is required to sell at cut-throat rates as the costs of not having a physical premises creates great downward pressures on prices. This is good for the customer, but not for the longevity of the seller.

I feel ebay has recently begun to become very anti-seller in its approach - sellers are now not allowed to give negative feedback to buyer, although buyers may gives negatives feedback to sellers.

My main concerns of late have been the ease with which ebay will suspend an account either temporarily or indefinitely. I have had this done to me, and ebay did offer no explanation and gave no warning even though, as in my case - I had 100% positive feedback.

The fees to use ebay are also very high. ebay essentially has a monopoly on the online auction.

To be an ebay seller, you must source your product very carefully, and be careful about the postage costs you will incur - these can very very high as all your produce is sent by post. It is also necessary that you be cautious of sending items overseas - if an item is not delivered you will still be liable to repay the purchaser so he is not out of pocket.
