Credit Crunch!
I opened a Natwest Student Account when I started at university in 2004. I had generally been pleased with them until part way through this academic year (2008). I started to get some very aggressively worded letters from their collections department despite still being within the overdraft they had given me, granted I was only £20 short of the total. When I phoned Natwest about this, it was requested that I had to pay the full overdraft in full over the phone or they would pass the matter onto the bailiffs and give me a nice black mark on my credit record. This has all come about because in their small print it stipulates that you have to pay some money into the account every 30 days. What bugs me is how many students can afford to do this (I guess only those with a part time job) and that they didn't mind for two and a half yrs, but then wanted it back all at once. Fortunately, I was in a position to have my parents bail me out on this occasion as I, as many other students are, was unable to give them £1500 over the phone there and then. Soon afterwards, I got a letter worded even more strongly, telling me to return my bank card and cheque book.
