Nicely refurbished
Disliked the food
I have visited the Halfway House in Southend for several years. The food and service has always been excellent. The pub was badly in need of refurbishment and this was completed in April this year. Since the refurbishment I feel the food has gone downhill. I have visited on two occasions both in April and May and complained on both occasions about the food. My granddaughter came to visit and desperately wanted to go as she loved their steak pie and I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and took her along on 19 August 2008 and once again I was extremely disappointed. The pie was in my opinion old, and seemed as though it had been sitting around for some time, the pastry was so hard I could not cut through it. The chips were hard and it was served with frozen peas which were still almost frozen. I feel this is not cheap at £8.50 a portion. I will not be returning to the Halfway House again which is quite sad as I have enjoyed going there over the past 5 years. Not somewhere I would recommend to anyone.
