Good Points

I purchased a Yardworks Model 60-1769-2 19" Electric Lawn Mower from my local Canadian Tire outlet about 18 months ago. It appeared sturdily built and able to handle a reasonable growth of lawn, given the tendency common to electrical mowers to 'choke' a bit on the odd patch of tough grass and need a moment to recycle.

However, problems soon arose with the design of the handle (see below) and most recently with the motor itself. I have used the unit maybe ten times since I bought it.

Bad Points

The handle caused immediate concern (see general comments).
To add to this, about a week ago I struck a tough patch of grass which apparently tripped the circuit breaker and caused the motor to stall . Despite my waiting and depressing the circuit-breaker, the mower refused to restart. Several attempts subsequently have been unsuccessful. I do not have a vehicle big enough to transport this into town from my country home for a 'service' so this is really not at all a satisfactory option.

General Comments

The handle issue: It is a two-part affair joined by a single butterfly-type screw on each side, with a couple of plastic blocks, the inner surfaces of which are serrated and supposed to interlock and stabilize the joint in one of three positions. This system doesn't work! Any attempt to push the mower up anything but the slightest gradient causes the handle to 'break' at the joint and assume a completely different angle. I've tried applying thumb-bruising torsion to these screws with all my strength in an effort to prevent this from happening - but to no avail. The handle slips out of position with very little strain. In summary, My experience with this model has been one tremendous disappointment! I see from my last visit to Canadian Tire that Yardworks has apparently discontinued the handle design described above (and most likely the entire model!) and gone to a half-sleeve joint design.

I am now in the market for a new (this time, engine-driven) lawnmower. My current model is destined for my next yard sale.
