Good Points
Feels comfortable in the hand and has some useful features. Plenty of lenses out there - at a price. If you don't want IS then some great bargains to be had. Impressive autofocus and start up time. Facility to customise patches to suit particular shooting situations you commonly use. Quality of images, enhanced by good software- handles Raw files very well. Impressive battery life.

Bad Points
Lenses are a bit bulky. Rubbery grip on kit lens. Canon haven't sorted out the compactness of their DSLR's like Olympus and Nikon. Plasticky finish, but no worse than the Nikon D60.
Upgrade bodies are bulky and expensive.

General Comments
The 18-55mm lens on the Canon EOS 400D performs much better than I had been led to expect by reviews. The sharp, silky images produced are a significant improvement on the Olympus E400 I previously owned.

I aquired a Tamron 55-200 f4-5.6 from Amazon for a mere £70 and it performs very well in good light.

The software support is the best I have come upon for handling Raw files, though Nikon Pictureproject is still the best for general tweaks to jpegs.
