Good car service from 353 (Alamo) at Dublin Airport.


General Comments

I've just returned from a week in Ireland where I rented a car from 353 (Alamo) at Dublin Airport. I did this some weeks before through the Money Supermarket comparison website, which came up with Easycar as the best deal. Now, maybe I'm somewhat to blame for not reading every single small print & page on the website, but I didn't realise at the time that they are only brokers, not a car hire company! Anyway, I paid (as I always do) the 'zero excess waiver' fee (of approx £45, plus the 'admin' card fee of £5 - for what, exactly?!) so I certainly didn't expect to be asked by the girl at the 353 desk if I wanted to pay it - again! I told her it was already paid, as indicated on my paperwork, however her reply was that I'd paid it to Easycar, but not 353!! After some argument about who my contract was with, I demanded they get Easycar on the phone to clarify - this alone took 3 attempts and nearly 1/2hr of holding before some foreign accent answered who told me 353 would charge my credit card for any damages sustained which I would then have to claim that back from Easycar - how 'easy' do you think that would have been?! Glad to say no damages occurred, but if they had, I hate to think of the fight I would have had on my hands before they would have coughed up! So the lesson learnt today is this - book it direct with the car hire co. and only pay any extras (ie. zero excess waiver fee, kiddie seats, etc) when collecting the car - here endeth the lesson!
