The best thing about Dublin Zoo is that it's in Dublin - which is a fantastic place! It's cheap to get in, not too big to walk around and there's lots to see. Get a bus from O'Connell Street and relax on the top deck and see the city sights on the way to the zoo. Lots of animals - we loved the penguins! Phoenix Park is right next door and it is HUGE!
A bit of a queue outside at peak periods and you need to allow plenty of time - we got there late, about 4.00 pm, and it was a bit of a rush.
The zoo is well laid out and compact so you don't get tired half way round. You can download a map from their excellent website. Compared to Chester Zoo it is far easier to get round - not as big but just as interesting - and cheaper too. I would say that it's better for children - Chester is just too big and they could get bored. Unlike Chester Zoo no one pesters you to sponsor an elephant! And unlike London Zoo it doesn't smell! We found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. A great day out!
