There are plenty of alternatives.
Lost my reservation, charged me anyway, did not do anything to replace the lost reservation, placed me on hold, did not return calls as promised. Other than that they were great!
Expedia was a nightmare to deal with. I booked a week's stay and paid in full -- and then was told my reservation had been lost. Also, the hotel was now booked up. I was passed from rep to rep, placed on hold at one point for 1 hour and 54 minutes (until I hung up). When I wrote them to ask for help they wrote back (unaware of the brutal irony of their form letters: "We are not able to expedite your request without having on the line with us."
