Bought a Pocket Surf2 gadget from Maplin during a day trip in London. With this gadget, you have to switch it on, and register and activate it, to actually see how it works. I did this and found I was not happy with the product. By then I was back home in Manchester.

I took it back within the 14 day period, but the staff at the shop immediately started making reasons on the hoof not to accept it. First they whinged it wasn't bought in their store -so totally contradicting the first salesman who said I could take it back to any UK store if I have a problem. Then the staff said they only refund as-new, and that as the product had been activated it was not 'as new'.

When I asked how on earth a user is meant to see if the gadget works without going through the mandatory registration and activation, they gave no answer and said 'no refund'.

I feel the staff are performance targeted NOT to accept refunds of any goods. This has been the worst customer services experience of my life.

    before ypu buy something do your research.

    I would think something like a poketsurfer, like you said, would require registration so cannot be sent back to head office to be examined and repacked if not faulty.
