General Comments

I ' ve been with Timer Warner Road Runner for 10 years. The service has been great. Recently I added phone service and it also works great. The salesman sold me a package deal and without my consent lowered my Internet speed. This is a serious business mistake and negotiations lasted a few weeks until they made a fair deal with me. Time Warner has always been there to represent me and I do not believe the bad sale is common business practice.

The issue seems to be that most telephone services tend to exaggerate up front to make the sale. It is my impression that Time Warner is the least devious. They have 4 Internet access speeds Turbo, Standard, Basic and Lite. You need to make sure you know what you are getting. I have the Standard speed and it consistently gets 7MB download speed. My phone service has its own IP address and so far there has never been a glitch.

I wanted very much to support the new VoIP phone services. My concern is all the people having problems and the price is not significantly less when considering my present package deal.

I tried to make a deal with AT&T but they are far too hard to deal with on the phone. Their service and support structure leaves far too much to be desired. I really do not trust AT&T. If you get the right package at a price you are comfortable with and you have no unique problems then AT&T will work.

Of the VoIP providers I was most impressed with ITP. Their structure alone suggests a reputable company even though a few customers complained. Had Time Warner not offered a reconciliation package I would have gone with ITP. If a VoIP company offers a 2 week period to break the contract and they want too much money up front you can bet they have problems. If they have no contract and you can break it any time then they are sure of themselves and are a better bet.
