Good Points
Prices seem good, that is, if you actually get them.

Bad Points
Extremely slow customer services team. Prices on site infrequently updated - probably best to call them, as I found out that a particular room was no longer available, despite it appearing on their site. Site seems prone to suffering technical errors.

General Comments
I tried making a hotel booking on Lastminute.com, but was told on the checkout pages that there was a technical error and that my card had not been debited, and suggestd I try again. After multiple attempts, I gave up, only to find out later from my bank that some charges had been made.
After (eventually) getting on the phone several times (there seems to be only 1 person in the call centre, I spoke to him each time), I was given no explanation for the error, they said that they would go ahead and make the cancellations. Thankfully, my bank is decent (HSBC) and they exercised their descretion to cancel the payments. If you have a debit account, you'll know that once a payment is authorised, you can no longer access the money. The lastminute billing department would liase with my bank if there is a problem. I got an email from someone in customer support with lastminute promised an investigation and response within 24 hours - its been almost 3 days and I'm still waiting for news.
Basically, lastminute is a company that I certainly will never be dealing with again. If you're going to go ahead and use them I recommend:
1. Dealing over the phone.
2. Not using a debit card.
3. Checking frequently with your bank/credit card company to see what they have charged you.
But if you want the safest recommendation, then simply don't deal with them. Expedia, Travelocity, Opodo, Thomas Cook and the rest may charge slightly more, but in the end you'll save a lot more in headaches and problems. Best to go with a reputable travel agent.
In short, lastminute.com = rubbish. Don't use.
