Stunning scenery.
Three good pubs nearby (the ODG, New Dungeon Ghyll and the Sticklebarn).
Good hillwalking trails within easy reach.
The village of Chapel Stile just along the valley is a charming "olde worlde" village.
Very busy when we went (August Bank holiday 2006).
Myself and a group of friends spent three nights at Great Langdale campsite during August 2006. Having not been out camping for a while it was a great excuse, especially as it coincided with unseasonably bad weather back home.
The setting was beautiful. The Langdale Valley must be one of the most picturesque valleys in the Lakes. This was helped by some beautiful sunny weather.
The campsite itself is well laid out, with clean shower blocks and a small but well stocked on-site shop.
I think the only issue was how busy it was. Bank holiday weeks must always be busy for campsites, but I got the feeling this site got a bit too full before the "no vacancies" signs went up. I felt a bit too close to other groups. Amazingly, it wasn't as loud as some other reviewers have reported, but maybe we were just lucky.
I'd certainly go back to Great Langdale (in fact I'm trying to plan another trip in the near future), but would probably avoid "busy" times like summer bank holidays.
