General Comments

I bought this Hotpoint WD860 following on from a whole year of problems with a hotpoint WD640 washer dryer. After over 10 visits from hotpoint to repair the old machine I insisted on a replacement. Not wanting the same maching I paid them to upgrade it to this model.

First few days seemed ok, it certainly looked great but then the problems started again. Heres a list of the problems:

Boiling clothes even at 40 degrees:- Twice (yes twice) the thermostat had gone faulty and consequently it didn't know when the water was hot enough. As a result clothes were shrinking and colours running;

Tearing clothes:- items were getting caught somehow in the drum and tearing.

Noise:- The "super silent" refers to the wash NOT the spin. I have enjoyed the peace and quiet of being sat in a traffic jam in roadworks next to a man drilling the road more then this machine - seriously it woke the neighbours!

More colour running:- Now I know I am a bloke BUT my mother always taught me to seperate my colours. OK so what do you do if you have for example a pair of boxer shorts that are white with a coloured waist band, cut the band off??? My thinking would be to wash them as a delicate item at low temp which I did but STILL the colours ran. Now after one or two visits from hotpoint (6 to be exact) it turns out that the filter that you can take out and clean on most washers is actually hidden in the gubbins of this one meaning that when you wash darks any fluff collects INSIDE the machine. You then go to wash a load of white work shirts and somehow that colour can get sucked back into the machine so even a COMPLETE WHITES wash can end up with patchy stains.

This machine of mine if covered by a 5 year extended warranty but even though I have only had it a few months I am scrapping it.

Get this - being the saddo that I am I saved all of the damaged clothes and added up the value of them - a whopping £600+ of clothes have been ruined by this machine and its predecessor.

Hotpoint just keep offering to send an engineer, now their engineers have all been very helpful and in fairness to them they always carry parts, attend within a few days and are polite and helpful BUT there are only so many days off work you can take with the excuse of "washing machine being fixed".

I have now decided to change tactics, whilst the attractive WD860 is sat in my kitchen all disconnected I await delivery today of my new LG steam washer and seperate dryer. Lets hope we get better results from that!

Regarding my advice and recommendation: Do not buy Hotpoint.
