The breakfast! Well ....

General Comments

The Oyster Reach Beefeater, Bourne Hill. Our evening meal: absolutely superb. Waiting on staff courteous and friendly, and VERY hardworking. Lovely surroundings and nice decor. Appears to be a very popular spot where you can have a casual bar meal or a more dressy restaurant meal. We opted for the restaurant.

After our excellent evening meal we booked for breakfast with high hopes, based on the excellent evening meal we had just eaten (we were staying at the very pleasing Premier Inn next door). Oh my goodness what a let down!! We booked the £7.50 breakfast. There were the usuals cereals, fruit juices, croissants, yoghurts and toast on offer along with a full English Breakfast (as much as you can eat). Well I have to say we did not find it brilliantly impressive. We started with cereal and juice (not much to go wrong there) but it was nearly 45 minutes before the fry-up breakfast arrived, along with the waiter's apology of Sorry, I dont know what happened there. My husband (who fortunately had requested two eggs) had a fried egg on his plate which looked as though it had hardly seen the heat of the oil! And the sausages....oh my goodness, WAY to spicey for a breakfast, they totally swamped the taste of anything else on the plate. Plain pork or beef PLEASE! From the amount of sausages abandoned on plates on tables around us it didn't look as though other diners were too impressed with them either. Needless to say we did not book breakfast for the second morning! Cereals, toast and fruit for £7.50 - a tad expensive I think! However, if you do need to have breakfast (as our diabetic relative did) go for the Continental Breakfast at £5.50. That said, we most certainly recommend an evening meal at The Oyster Reach- TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS!
