Good Points

The Carnival Splendor had some very good points. The food was great, the service was the best we have experienced on any ship around the world. the ship was by far the most stable when sailing that we have ever sailed on. The cabins where spacious and the whole ship was sparkling as you would expect from a new vessel. The Lido deck was terrific with the retractable roof and wonderful pool area.

Bad Points

Unfortunately the Splendor was let down by very many bad points that soured our whole experience. The design of the public rooms were best described as a rabbit warren, hard to get too, unappealing and poorly laid out. The decor was hideous to say the least, it left us scratching our heads to why Carnival would spend $750 million on a fabulous ship to then allow very poor decorators to sink the ship. The entertainment was the worst we have ever experienced on over 12 cruises, the shows were lacking in every way, some nights they could not ever be bothered having a show instead held an embarrassing karaoke shows. The cruise director and his staff were trying but I feel that they were well out of their depth on this mish-mash of a ship. Other on board entertainment was a complete non-event with a very poor splattering of irritating US focused events. Shore excursions were ridiculously over priced and in many cases very poor value for money. Overall this was a very poorly run, decorated and designed ship only being held together by a fabulous catering and service team. Well done to the catering team you are the best.

General Comments

Carnival needs to realise that what works in the US will not work in other parts of the world. If Carnival wants to provide US style cruising then by all means stay in the US were they are appreciated by a style of client that enjoys this type of cruising. But do not waste peoples time and money who come to the European Cruise Market for the class and culture that this wonderful Continent in renowned for. Carnival needs to reconsider their entry into the European Market as their crass US style cruising is not welcome in the far more sophisticated and professional European Market.

I agree with this review because...I could not agree more, the food was fantastic and service, but the ship let it down.

I agree with this review because... It is 100% how we felt. Plus the amount of smokers in certain bars prevented non-smokers from going in them, such as the piano bar. We kept getting told what a great night it was in there late on in the evening, but as an ex-smoker and a non smoker did not want to go because of all the smoke. This crusie was no where near as good as the two we had taken before with Carnival around the Caribbean. It was like sailing with a totally different company.
