Good location
On my visits I have found some staff generally unpleasant (I would be lucky to get a thank you from them in the check out). I think foods are not fresh and in poor quality, and goods are lack of varieties, however they are not cheap.
Yesterday will be my last time to shop in Somerfield, Sydenham branch. When I noticed that the cashier had put a wrong product and wrong price on my bill, I went back to the store next day asked for a refund. After a not very enjoyable conversation with the staff she finally agreed for the refund but added I do it for you this time only for good will. I was amazed and thought who was doing who a favor here? I said, you owe me an apology. I am sorry if you think that way, she said. I demanded to see a senior staff member but he was as bad as her.
I wonder if it a fantasy that we shoppers trust those supermarkets and hand over the exact amount of money that we are told without checking and walk out from the shops thinking that the same amount of trust will be returned if problems occur later.
I never shop at any other Somerfield stores, but staff in that particular store seem generally unpleasant to me. When Safeway turned into Somerfield the store is from not so good to worse. I am not a fan of big supermarket but in my opinion if Somerfield is in the prime location of our high street to waste space then please let Tesco in to give the community a better deal.
