The chairs at the entrance, the views which earn it my one point.
Food quality, price, service quality, the time taken for food to arrive, tatty seats, staff
55 Degrees North is the first restaurant I've ever walked out of without paying. We waited 45 minutes for two rare steaks, some fries and garlic mushrooms. My rare steak was medium at best, a hint of pink in the middle. It was returned, but only after a member of staff asked me to cut it in front of her to verify how it was cooked (oh dear). She mentioned that chef had had a few steaks returned, maybe this should have indicated something to her. Meanwhile, my wife's steak (also overcooked, but not as bad as mine) had been cooling down nicely, and the one of two sides that we had ordered was taken away to be reheated. No sign of the second side, we had to ask for it.
The second steak arrived, it was cooked the same as the first (the chef had apparently cut into this one himself, and still sent it out). I was assured that this was a rare steak, that any hint of pink and a trace of juice under the steak meant it was rare. Oh dear, oh dear...
At this point we declined to accept the food and got up to leave. And at this point we were told to pay for our drinks by the rather taken aback lady. I waited at the bar to pay for my half finished glass of wine (we'd paid for our first round at the bar already), then decided that I wasn't going to waste any more of my time and left.
I wouldn't have been quite as annoyed if i wasn't told to pay for our drink on the way out. Infact my advice to potential customers of this restaurant is just go to the Harbour Bistro instead...
