We were very disappointed with "The Woman in Black." The reviews led us to believe that the production would have us on the edge of our seats. Nothing could be further from the truth with the play we saw yesterday.
The actor who played "the actor " is crucial to building up the suspense and atmosphere of the story. The one we saw was very wooden, and the suspense and atmoshere were just not there. As there are only two main characters in the story this made the production very boring. The gentleman next to us kept nodding off.
The fact that most of the seats were occupied by school parties
probably didn't help, as they tended to over-act at crucial parts of the play making it impossible to hear some of the dialogue.
We would not recommend seeing this play on a weekday matinee.
