Good Points
Well designed website, good quality components, low price

Bad Points
Unhelpful customer service, took much longer than I thought it would take to build and repair the goods I purchased.

General Comments
I ordered the PC from ComputerPlanet at the start of Feb, it took them until the middle of March to get the machine to me. When it arrived they had installed the version of windows I didnt want, so I reinstalled it, one of the fans was connected backwards... Now these were things I could solve, and did so. However other issues popped up, an error in vista that I've never come up against at all (BSOD whenever 4gb of ram was installed until a software patch was released, granted, that was a Microsoft problem, but it would have been nice for Computer Planet to inform me of this issue and supply the patch on a disk, that way I wouldn't have had to waste hours of my time diagnosing it.) The graphics card, plus power supply unit were running very hot, making the computer case uncomfortable to touch very quickly.

ComputerPlanet did apologise for the wrong install of windows, then pointed me to the correct vista patch to correct the memory error. However, I was not happy with the way they ran with the temperature that the computer was running at. The computer would generally run with a couple of stability issues, crashing when the graphics card was under high load, or on a hot day. Unfortunately, well over a month ago, the stability got much worse. The graphics card would crash constantly, the temperature of the case got to the point that one time I touched it I thought I had seriously burned myself. Finally, just as I was considering contacting computerplanet again the computer pretty much gave up the ghost, and most of the time, refused to power up. I contacted them and told them I wasn't happy, that after reading a few reviews online. I wasn't confidant about sending the machine back for repair, and would much prefer a refund. They were unable to refund me it seemed, and I relented and allowed them to pick the machine up for repair...

Now, over a month later, I've just got the machine back, and it actually appears in a worse state than when I sent it in my opinion... minor cosmetic damage to the case from their repair (small dents, warping of the panels where it seems they've not checked that they're lined up correctly before screwing the machine back together), snapped front facade, components not reconnected, loose screws rattling round the bottom of the case... and the machine freezes immediately on startup on most occasions (and every occasion when a USB mouse is plugged in).

That doesn't include the fact that when I showed my displeasure at how long it was taking them to repair my machine, they once again, couldn't give the refund that I asked for as I felt they had their "reasonable time period" to repair the machine, instead. I was offered a spec upgrade which I decided to accept, and following trading standard's advice I requested a date for when I'd get my PC back. They told me 7 days, which seemed too short considering how long it took them to do anything in previous experience... I then asked about what they were going to upgrade, after a couple of days silence I then received an email a couple of days before the date given from them saying that they'd have to stop the RMA and there would be a delay of sending the machine out to me if I wanted the upgrade. I replied that I, of course, accepted that, and to stop the RMA while an upgrade was decided upon and fitted...

Imagine my surprise when I received an email just a day later from their postal service, saying that the machine had been picked up and was on it's way to me, arriving early this afternoon. I sent another email to them, once again expressing my displeasure at the lack of customer service I was receiving.

Now, we're up to date... Once I found all the problems with the machine and did a couple of diagnostics, I contacted computerplanet again and explained the issues, and once again, requested my refund.

Sorry for going on so long, but I wanted to explain my situation currently... I am now currently working with trading standards to resolve this situation and get myself either a newly built machine, or some sort of refund.

I honestly can't recommend Computer Planet because of the above issues. Their prices are great, they use good quality components, but the customer service I received was unhelpful I felt.
