Good Points

Good on woody and twiggy material, which is crushed and chopped to 1' pieces. These then compost well in salvaged builders' bags, especially if some fresh grass clippings are mixed in. Does handle branches up to 4cm as claimed, and tends to pull through side shoots. Works fast when it works. The included collection box was handy.


Bad Points

Not good on green stems and leafy stems, which collect as a mush in the U shaped grooves of the roller, blocking further shredding. Running dry woody material through will sometimes clear the roller but I returned this shredder since the shape of the grooves means it repeatedly and unavoidably jams up.


General Comments

This shredder does not have an auto-reverse function and none is described on the packaging or manual; however I bought it from the Argos website under the impression that it does. The shredder does have a manual switch to run the shredder in reverse, which clears jams from too much wood but does not clear the leafy mush that collects between blades on the roller. The plastic chute where branches go down is only around 1mm thick and bent out of shape on the second use. I now have a Bosch AXT 2200 which is far better at handling green material without clogging. The roller is an L shape between blades which seems to prevent cut material from getting stuck. The build quality of the Bosch also appears better, with for example bolts holding the shredder to its frame rather than screws.
