They invest in making the gyms look shiny and nice, and putting new equipment in; they are relatively cheap
They go all out to recruit new members so you end up with gyms that are far too busy at peak times, they run out of towels, and can't keep the changing rooms clean. The staff don't appear to be trained and don't seem to be recruited for any specific customer service skills or health/fitness knowledge.
Having experienced a number of different gyms I don't honestly believe Fitness First is interested in personal fitness or wellbeing, all they seem to care about is getting new members in the door. They don't care what impact their over-subscription has on the experience of current members. I am leaving Fitness First as soon as my subscription is up this month.
