Fun Turbo kick. Excellent pick up. Economical when not thrashed. Reasonable to insure. Fun, fun, fun.
Tinny build. Easy to lose road grip if not given respect.
My cars alloy engine block cracked at 60000 miles, was repaired succesfully but it was a headache to fix.
I proudly owned a Daihatsu Charade and ran it for 10 years, it brought a smile to my face every day. I well remember the morning drive from Sutton to Dorking on a 40 mile hour stretch. Jags and Beamers used to chase me from the traffic lights but were no match for the GTti's initial acceleration, they inevitably got snapped by speed cameras when trying to catch up! It was a sad day for my sons and me when I had to retire it.
