It has a blue progress bar at the right of the screen that moves up the screen, so you know when the instruction is required. If it says in 1000 ft turn left then just glance at the progress bar you know when to turn, it also repeats itself nearer the turn.
In Central London recently it told me to go straight ahead - It was no entry so had to turn left, but it recalibrated quickly and gave me new instructions.
The Navman iCN 320 gives small diagramms of the road layout ahead, eg a roundabout and indicates through the icon which turning to take as well as the speech of the machine informing you too.
