This was our second visit to Lakitira. We had a fabulous holiday in 2005 & our son had a ball at the Kidzclub. This time he was in the Indys (14+) and really enjoyed the independence that he had & we were happy knowing that access to the hotel complex was secure. (The hotel is the last one on the road and there is a 24 hour security guard at the gate house.) The are two parts to the complex, the hotel & the village. We stayed in the hotel which has just been refurbished this season and the rooms are very smart. The bathrobes are a really nice touch.
Mark Warner have introduced a "flexible" holiday package with regards to food & drink this year & I predict that it will backfire on them. With the "flexible" package the initial holiday package price appears quite good, however with now having to purchase water (bottles of water were freely available in previous years) at 1.5 Euros & also having to purchase wine at dinner, the costs soon mount up making it a very expensive holiday. The nearest shops are a 10 minute bus/taxi ride away so Mark Warner/the hotel have a very captured market. At night there is absolutely NOTHING to do. The only "entertainment" in our two week holiday was a 6 question quiz, object tennis & best of all the Kidz Club last night show. The only thing to do is buying expensive drinks at the bar and we're talking UK city prices. There are now TVs in the hotel rooms but unless you are fluent in Greek or German then the only choices you have are BBC World News or Sky News.
Unfortunately we were very disappointed with Lakitira this year. The refurbishment is great but I believe that Mark Warner have shot themselves in the foot with regards to the changes to the package that they used to offer. Most of the guests we spoke to at the resort were also previous guests, either at Lakitira or another Mark Warner resort, and all voiced how disappointed they were. Unless Mark Warner review their price structuring then we will not be holidaying with them again.
